*Senate President urges Buhari to assent Steel University Ajaokuta bill*
Nigeria Senate President, Distinguished Senator Ahmed Lawan has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to give special consideration and speedy assent to the bill seeking establishment of Nigeria Steel University Ajaokuta, Kogi State.
Senator Lawan made the call recently at the plenary when the Senate passed the bill sponsored by the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Communication Technology/Cybercrime, Senator Yakubu Oseni.
The lawmaker argued that establishing the specialized university became imperative owing to the avowed decision of President Buhari’s administration to diversify Nigeria’s economy from its present crude oil to steel sector.
“This is one of those important legislations that this Senate has made because our way to cross to glory, development and stability is to have our steel industry functioning. This university when established will definitely provide the necessary and needed manpower for the steel industry in our country”, he said.
Senator Lawan who reiterated the need to urgently sign the bill into law while the present administration sustains its tempo for the revival of Ajaokuta Steel company, congratulated Senator Yakubu Oseni and his colleagues at the Red Chamber for their diligence.
It would be recalled that Senator Yakubu Oseni has etched his name in the list of those lawmakers who is passionate about sponsoring bills and motions that have direct positive bearing on his constituents and Nigerians.
Also recall that amongst his other sensitive bills, the one seeking for establishment of “Solid Minerals Producing Areas Development Agency ” has been considered and passed through first reading.
