Politics they say is local hence selecting or choosing any candidate to serve at any level should be determined by the stakeholders of the party, not anyone whatever the situation.

This was the concern raised by members of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi state where it is being peddled that the stakeholders of the party might not have input into the selection of who becomes the Caretaker Chairman in the local government since the outgoing Executive Chairman’s tenure ends today.

In a message signed by its leaders, Joseph Komolafe and Ajayi Jerome, made available to newsmen in Lokoja, it described those suggesting such to go and hide their faces as any attempt to Lord anyone who is not endorsed by a majority of the party’s stakeholders in the area will spell doom for the party in the nearest elections.

According to him, it would be counterproductive for the party if anyone who has an interest in serving as Chairman in the area refused to make his or her intentions known to the stakeholders and general public, believing in getting such a position through the back door of someone who is not a member of the party. He pointed out that the future success of the party lies in the process that produces the next Caretaker Chairman of the council.

The group said despite it being the turn of Kabba district to produce the next Chairman of the local government, it would not be good for the party for an individual to be allowed to appoint whoever he or she wants without any consultation with the stakeholders of the party in the local government, as there are precedence that both districts will decide since such appointed Chairman will oversee the entire local government, not Kabba district alone.

They admonished the leadership of the party in the state to allow stakeholders of each local government to discuss and agree on any acceptable candidate that can carry along all the party structures without any rancor instead of creating avoidable crisis.

They urged the State Party Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Dollar not to allow himself to be cajoled by anyone no matter how highly placed the personality may be stressing that APC as a party has been winning elections in the local government since the 2015 general elections. He pointed out that those who joined were actually not the game changers, rather they came to the party for safe haven.

They said it will be disservice to appoint a controversial politician who is not consistent and know from jumping from party to another stressing that those parading themselves to be the anointed candidate of some certain individuals in the local government are only afraid of public scrutiny of their unwholesome conducts and records.

He pointed out that appointment of a caretaker chairman cannot be base on clans and family linage rather it should be base on competent, credibility, capacity, experience and above all it should be someone who can truly mobilize the party towards for a better performance.
