World Teachers Day: There are No Quackery in Kogi Public Schools-Wemi Jones
Kogi State Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones says there are no quackery in the public schools of the State.
Hon. Jones stated this while speaking with Newsmen on the sideline of the World Teachers Day celebration organized by the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in Lokoja.
The International Teachers Day is celebrated annually on the fifth of October since 1994.
The day commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the nineteen sixty six International Labour Organisation ILO and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisations UNESCO recommendation concerning teachers status.
The Recommendation sets benchmarks on the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
The Commissioner in his message to the Celebration felicitated with teachers on this year’s Teachers Day, urging them to pray for the education sector to move forward.
Mr. Jones noted that the State Government has already embarked on reforms that will transform the sector, hence the passage of the Education Law by the state Assembly.
According to him, plans are currently on to introduce better welfare package to motivate teachers to do more.
He said perimeter fencing of schools in the state have been included in next year’s budget and appealed for the support of teachers.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimaging the Future.
