Kogi State House of Assembly has read for the second time a bill for a law to establish the Kogi State Multi-Door Court House and other matters connected therewith, 2024 .
The Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Mrs Comfort Nwuchiola Egwaba who presided over the sitting directed Clerk of the House to give the bill its second reading
Earlier while leading the debate on the bill, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, representative of Lokoja 11 state constituency and Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly disclosed on the floor of the House that it was a private member bill
Speaker Yusuf said one of the objectives of the bill when passed into law is to enhance access to justice by providing alternative mechanism to supplement litigation in the resolution of disputes.
He added that it would minimize citizens ‘ frustration and delays in justice delivery by providing a standard legal framework for far and efficient settlement of disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution
Besides, Rt Hon Yusuf added that it would serve as focal point for the promotion of Alternative Dispute Resolution in the state.
Above all, he said the bill would promote the goodwill and effective functioning of the justice system through ADR mechanism.
While throwing more lights on the advantages of the bill, he said it sought to promote quick and effective dispensation of justice and an avenue for parties to feel satisfied in terms of conflict resolution.
The bill was seconded by Hon Zakari Otokiti who represents Okehi state constituency and other Hon members who thanked the sponsor of the bill as well as itemized the advantages of the bill when passed into law.
Also a bill for a law to provide for the prevention of HIV/AIDS Based Discrimination and Protection of the Rights and Dignity of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS and for related matters ,2024 also passed through second reading.
Hon Bin Ebaiya Shehu Tijani , represents Lokoja 1 state constituency who sponsored the bill, read the lead the debate on it.
