The Kwara State Government has presented five modern commercial boats to five communities in the coastal areas of Kaiama Local Government to boost their economic activities.
It would be recalled that the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq recently procured 40 modern boats for the use of coastal communities across the state.
Presenting the boats to the benefiting communities of Gwajibo, Dada, Masama, Tunga-Bichi, and Loko-Moshe, all in Adana ward, Governor AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar Bata disclosed that the primary responsibility of any responsible and responsive government is to make life easier for its citizens.
He explained that a similar gesture had earlier been extended to Patigi and Edu Local Governments with the provision of life jackets for safe travels on the waterways.
Also speaking, a member representing Adena/Bani Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed commended the present administration for identifying with the people of his constituency in the riverine areas through the provision of three modern commercial boats and two fishing boats.
He disclosed further that the provision of the boats will guarantee the safety of his people and also enhance their economic productivity, describing the giant stride as a proof that the Governor is a man of his words, who always live up to his promises.
Lending his voice, the Special Adviser on Strategy to the Governor, Hon. Atiku Abdulsalam also appreciated the State Government for the timely intervention and assured of their maximum support.
The Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar thanked the Governor for fulfilling his campaign promises to the people of Kaiama and environs.
Alhaji Omar, who was represented by the Executive Chairman, Local Government Service Commission and Kwara State Local Government Pension Board, Alhaji Umar Danladi Shero pledged their unalloyed support to the present administration and promised good use of the facilities.
In his welcome address, the State Coordinator of FADAMA, Engr. Busari Toyin Isiaka commended the present administration for having the love of the people at heart, adding that the facilities provided would aid the smooth transportation of the people of the area on the waterways.
Represented by the Technical Officer, Mallam Abdulmalik Zubair, the Coordinator disclosed that this is the first phase of the intervention as thier agencies would be conducting random checks on the boats to ensure proper usage.
In their separate vote of thanks on behalf of the benefiting communities, Hon. Mahmud Salihu and Alhaji Bala Seriki from Gwajibo and Dada communities respectively, expressed gratitude to the Governor for always putting their welfare at heart, assuring that the boats will be put to maximum use.
