A passionate call from the group of advocates of inclusion in the disability Community/the entire disability Community in kogi state and Nigeria to the Executive Governor, His Excellency Ahmed Usman Ododo, President Ahmed Bola TINUBU and the state Party Chairmen of all political parties to consider persons with disabilities.
During the last administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, there was an affirmation and a directive that all the vice chairmen of all the LG be women and also the council leaders but there was no provision as such for persons with disabilities.
In the light of Inclusion which is the global practices, we humbly appeal to the leadership of all the political parties to make both the intent and Nomination forms free for persons with disabilities.
We equally appeal to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, other Governors of the concern states and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E Ahmed Bola TINUBU to kindly consider persons with disabilities as the most marginalized group in our society to have at least one Executive Chairman with disability across the 21 states where LG election shall be conducted soon and to have in each of the LG a person with disability as councillors and at least any other principal positions (appointments).
We have been so marginalized when it comes to political opportunities and we constituted about 10% of the total population of the state and Nigeria.
We are voters and there is no DISABILITY ON OUR VOTER’S CARD therefore, we should be considered to be voted for and also be appointed into key positions at the state level and across the LGAs as provided in the National disability Act and the Kogi State disability Law 2018
We must come to the understanding that, the running of every administration is a function of the BRAIN and not the LEGS.
We also use this medium to appeal to kogi Network of NGOs (KONGONET) other NGOs in Nigeria and individuals with love for persons with disabilities to amplify our voices.
