In Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, and its environs, private businesses and financial institutions were partially closed for fear of possible attacks by protesters in the state.
When our Correspondent went round major areas of Ilorin metropolis, including the Metropolitan Square, which was the court-approved designated venue for the protest, Sulu-Gambari road, Post office, Taiwo road, Gerin-Alimi and Murtala Mohammed Way, the places were discovered to have been partially deserted for fear of protesters.
However, normal activities were going on in all government offices and the courts visited.
Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin, a trader, Segun Sanusi, said the protests could not solve the problems on hand, urging the
protest organisers to adopt dialogue and engagements to resolve the issues of hardship and insecurity ravaging the country.
He said: “Embarking on protest would only aggravate the hardship being experienced, especially by the downtrodden across the country.
As at the time of filling this report, there was no sign of protest in any part of the State.
Moreover, there was a heavy security presence in strategic locations in the capital city of Ilorin to prevent hoodlums from attacking innocent citizens.
