The Nigerian Medical Association, (NMA), Kogi chapter, has raised an alarm accusing its National Officers Committee (NOC) of planning to impose an illegal State Executive Council (SEC) in Kogi State.
The Kogi NMA made the allegation in Communique issued after its Emergency General Meeting (EGM), jointly signed by its Chairman, Dr Abubakar Alhassan; and Secretary, Dr Adaranijo Kolapo, on Friday in Lokoja.
The association faulted a letter allegedly signed by NOC Secretary- General of the national body, Dr. Benjamin Egbo, dated 13th September 13, recognising unknown persons as Kogi NMA Chairman and Secretary.
“The Emergency General Meeting (EGM) of the State Executive Council (SEC) of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Kogi State branch was held today in Lokoja.
“At the meeting, the SEC looked into the state of the association, especially with respect to the continuous meddling of the NOC in the internal affairs of the branch, resolved as follows:
“That the general public, particularly the offices that were copied in the letter, should discountenance the correspondence, because the Secretary- General, including the National Officers Committee (NOC) overreached themselves in the letter.
“The NOC acted outside the jurisdiction of their powers and are doing everything possible to impose an illegal SOC on the congress of NMA Kogi State branch.
“The State Officers Committee (SOC) should continue to provide the needed leadership in line with the NEC position at the Maiduguri NEC meeting of August 2024.
“The SOC should schedule, in the coming days, a statutory State Executive Council (SEC) meeting of NMA Kogi, to respond more appropriately to the letter and the issues raised therein,” the communique reads.
According to the communique, the EGM of Kogi NMA had in attendance members of the State Executive Council (SEC), including the State Officers Committee (SOC), Affiliate Heads, and Past Chairmen, among others.
The immediate past Chairman of Kogi NMA, Dr Olushola Baoku, was allegedly impeached from office alongside some executive over alleged corruption, misappropriation of funds and abuse of office.
