***Youthful Enugu Reign Supreme at 2024 Prof. Ndi Okereke Fastpitch Softball Tournament

The Nigerian Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA) wrapped up their 2024 playing activities with a bang as they hosted the 2nd edition of the Prof. Ndi Okereke Fastpitch Softball tournament at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The tournament, held from the 1st to the 7th of November, saw young and talented softball players from across the country converge to showcase their skills and sportsmanship.
Teams such as Team Delta Force, Team Kaduna, Team Imo, Team Rivers, Ikorodu Braves of Lagos, Team Oyo, Team Enugu, Badagry Angels of Lagos, Bishop Rowland of Lagos, and Team Ogun State participated in the tournament. The competition was fierce, with teams vying for the prestigious title across different age categories.
The 2nd Edition of the Prof Ndi Okereke Fastpitch Softball tournament was a true spectacle of talent and sportsmanship. With teams from all over competing fiercely, the winners of the senior category not only walked away with handsome cash prizes, but also with other souvenirs to remember their victory. In addition, the U-12 and U-15 categories were not left out, as they were rewarded with various educational materials to support their growth both on and off the field. All winners, regardless of category, were adorned with medals and trophies, symbolizing their hard work and determination throughout the tournament.
As the final games were played under the glowing sun, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and camaraderie. In total, over 21 individuals were recognized for their outstanding performances with awards and shields, further highlighting the depth of talent in the tournament. This year’s event truly showcased the best of fastpitch softball, bringing together players of all ages to compete and celebrate the sport they love. Congratulations to all the winners and participants for a successful and memorable tournament!
In the Under 12 category, Team Enugu State emerged victorious, with Bishop Rowland coming in second and Team Rivers securing the third spot. Team Enugu continued their winning streak by clinching the Under 15 title, leaving Team Delta in second place and Team Bishop Rowland in third. The senior category saw Team Rivers take the top spot, followed by Team Delta Force in second place and Team Kaduna in third.
The highlight of the tournament was undoubtedly the dominance of Team Enugu, who walked away with victories in both the Under 12 and Under 15 categories. Prof. Ndi Okereke, the renowned academic after whom the tournament is named, expressed her delight at the honor and pledged her continuous support for the development of baseball and softball in Nigeria.
Coach Jacob Dennis Dede, representing the chairman of the Fastpitch Softball Committee, commended the participating states for their commitment and high level of play. He praised the coaches and officials for their technical support and dedication to the game, emphasizing the bright future of fastpitch softball and baseball in Nigeria.
