The Iyamoye Development Union (IDU) Lokoja branch is set to celebrate itse 40th year of its existence and the launch of its maiden magazine, The ECHO, on 30th of November, 2024. It is going to be a time for thanksgiving to God that have spared and sustained the lives of its members all through these years and it is going to be another great opportunity for the people to showcase their hospitability, culture, oneness and their determination to break all barriers impeding the socio-economic development of the kingdom.
Iyamoye is one of the fastest bustling and growing communities in Ijumu L.G.A and in Okun land in general. It is one of the fifteen political wards in Ijumu Local Government Areas which geographically is situated in the north central state of Kogi State, Nigeria. The people speak a dialect known as Okun-Yoruba, the people are hardworking, honest, kind, generous, patient, hospitable, supportive, religious, courageous and dutiful.
The community has set and achieved several firsts in many human endeavours even before the country secured her independence in 1960, and even after the independence too. Most of the developments in the town are community-driven projects initiated and executed by the people. The people are proud farmerse helping to contribute immensely to feed Kogi State and its neighbouring states. It is the home of quality cocoa, coffee, yams, cassava, cocoyam, fruits, maize, timber and palm oil. The community is blessed with fertile land and having the zeal to carry out farming in large scale. There are other means of employment in the town such as teaching, trading, transport business, tailoring, and all manner of handiworks. Iyamoye tolerates visitors. The ancient town is the pathfinder of rural and self-help development in the last seventy-five years and the people are still striving very hard to bring more development to the community.
Iyamoye is second home to well over 5,000 non-indigenes residing in the ever busy community and other farm settlements in the kingdom, making the community home of peace for the indigenes, its guests cum visitors and neighbouring communities.e
The event for this weekend is expected to attract bigwigs, captains of industries, top politicians, traditional and community leaders across Nigeria. This event is coming after forty years of existence and it’s worth being celebrated.
The ceremony will come up at the Children’s Amusement Park Lokoja Kogi State by 10:00am on 30th November, 2024, under the chairmanship of Major General Tahir Umar (Rtd).
According to the IDU Lokoja branch, Mallam Muftau Adetiba, important dignitaries such as the paramount ruler of Iyamoye Kingdom HRM, Oba Ade Ibrahim Momoh and Alhaji Shittu Abubakar, the national president of IDU will certainly be in attendance. Several other eminent guests will also grace the epoch making event.
In the words of Rev’d Dr. S.O. Ibimode awards will be bestowed on both indigenes and non-indigenes of Iyamoye that have promoted and contributed to humanity in their chosen careers. He also stated that the first ever magazine, The ECHO will be unveiled to the public during the award ceremony.
