The Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola Egwaba, on Monday, 10th November 2025, received a delegation from the Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) who paid a courtesy visit to solicit the support of the Legislature towards the development and implementation of a Social Protection Policy for Kogi State.
Leading the delegation, Halima Sadiq emphasized the importance of establishing a functional Social Protection Policy that prioritizes the needs of the poor and vulnerable. She noted that ANEEJ, working in collaboration with consortium members and with funding from the European Union, had convened both national and state-level dialogues where the absence of such a policy framework was identified as a pressing concern. According to her, a technical committee has already been constituted to draft the policy, which is now nearing completion and will soon be presented to the Steering Committee for validation.
In her response, Rt. Hon. Egwaba commended the team for their advocacy and sustained commitment to improving the welfare of citizens. She reaffirmed the Legislature’s readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure that policies promoting equity, social inclusion, and human dignity are institutionalized across Kogi State.
The visit further reinforces the Legislature’s role as a key partner in advancing people-centered governance and social development. It reflects a shared commitment to building a state where every citizen—especially the poor and vulnerable—has access to the support and opportunities needed to live with dignity.
