PRESS STATEMENT BY THE DEPUTY SPEAKER, KOGI STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, RT. HON. COMFORT OJOMA NWUCHIOLA EGWABA, ON THE REPORTED CLASHES IN IBAJI
I am deeply saddened by reports of violent clashes between Ibaji communities—particularly Ejule Ojebe—and Fulani herdsmen in parts of Ibaji Local Government Area, including the tragic loss of lives in Ejule Ojebe. This painful incident has brought immense grief to the affected families and the entire community. I strongly condemn all acts of violence and reiterate that no misunderstanding should ever lead to the loss of innocent lives or the disruption of peaceful coexistence.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray that God grants them comfort and strength in this difficult time.
I call on security agencies and relevant authorities to move swiftly to restore peace, protect lives and property, and bring the perpetrators to justice. There is also an urgent need for proactive and lasting solutions that will address the underlying causes of these tensions and prevent a recurrence.
I urge community leaders, youths, and residents to remain calm, cooperate with law enforcement, and avoid spreading unverified information capable of escalating the situation. As your representative, I remain committed to working with the state government, security agencies, and traditional institutions to ensure the safety of our communities and the preservation of peace in Ibaji.
May God comfort the bereaved and grant peace to our land.
_Rt. Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola Egwaba
