The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf has acknowledged the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore and conduct elections in the suppressed constituencies in the state.
The Speaker expressed appreciation to the judiciary for standing with the people and upholding justice, noting that the ruling affirms the long held position that the affected constituencies exist and deserve full democratic representation.
Recall that the Assembly had earlier deliberated extensively on this matter and communicated a formal resolution to INEC urging prompt action to correct the imbalance. The court judgment reinforces the legitimacy of that legislative resolution and strengthens the collective demand for fairness.
The Assembly therefore calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission to obey the ruling without delay and ensure strict compliance with the judgment. The restoration of the suppressed constituencies is a necessary step toward equitable representation, inclusive governance, and respect for constitutional principles.
The 8th Assembly reiterates its commitment to pursue this matter to its logical conclusion. The House will continue to engage relevant institutions and deploy all lawful legislative measures until the right thing is done and the wrongs of the past are fully corrected.
The Kogi State House of Assembly remains resolute in defending the democratic rights of every community and ensuring that no constituency is denied its voice in the legislative process.
