A staunch loyalist of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. A.A. Yaba Maisaka, has formally submitted his letter of intent to contest for the Lokoja I State Constituency seat in the Kogi State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Maisaka presented the letter on Monday at the residence of the APC leader in Lokoja Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam, a former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly. The event attracted a large crowd of supporters, party faithful, youths, women groups, and well-wishers, who accompanied the aspirant.
Speaking during the visit, Yaba said his ambition was driven by a desire to serve the people and provide quality representation across all wards in the constituency, from Ward A to Ward E.
“I was born and brought up in Lokoja, precisely in Ward E. Having contested twice for the position of Executive Chairman of Lokoja LGA, I understand the needs of our people. This aspiration is about bringing good governance closer to the grassroots,” he said.
He promised inclusive representation and pledged to prioritize the welfare and development of his constituents if elected.
Also speaking, a close ally of the APC leader, popularly known as Uncle Stone, attested to Maisaka’s character, describing him as humble, dependable, and committed to service. He urged supporters not to betray the aspirant’s trust and prayed for his success in the race.
“Yaba is a man of good character and humility. I call on all his supporters to remain steadfast and not to betray this aspiration,” he said.
The Director General of the Yaba Campaign Movement, Comrade Yarima Salihu, who is also the President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Lokoja chapter, said the visit was to formally present the letter of intent and seek the blessings of the party leader.
He also congratulated Imam on his emergence as the APC leader in Lokoja LGA, noting that the campaign team deemed it necessary to consult him in line with party tradition.
Responding, Imam assured Maisaka and his supporters of a level playing ground, stating that other aspirants had also visited him.
“The most important thing is for the people to choose wisely someone who can bring government closer to the grassroots, influence opportunities, and demonstrate quality leadership,” he said.
He acknowledged receipt of the letter and commended the peaceful conduct of the supporters. The meeting ended with a group photograph as a highlight of the visit.
Party stakeholders, youth groups, and women organizations were among those in attendance at the event.
