Kwara Govt Lauds UNFPA’s Continued Interventions in GBV
* As UNFPA Targets Kwara for Flagship Status In Its 9th Country Programme.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Mrs.) Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, has commended the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for its continued intervention in providing care for survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and for recommending Kwara State as the flagship state for its 9th Country Programme.
Chief (Mrs.) Afolashade, who gave the commendation while receiving representatives of UNFPA during a courtesy visit to her office, appreciated the commitment of the organisation to the welfare of young girls, women and children and its collaboration with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state.
The Commissioner highlighted UNFPA’s interventions implemented in the state, which include technical and financial support for the FGM Action Plan 2026-2030, establishment of an international standard One-Stop Centre and Adolescent-Friendly Corner, inauguration of a Technical Working Group on GBV for the Ministry, capacity building for staff on GBV, Training of Trainers on GBV/HTPs for 270 schools across the 16 LGAs, establishment of School Clubs on GBV/HTPs and Community Dialogue in various communities on GBV/HTPs.
Responding, the Country Liaison Officer, UNFPA, Madam Abbigail Msemburi, noted that the Ministry has been exceptional in its execution of UNFPA programmes, describing this as a testament to the commitment of the state government and the Commissioner to eradicating GBV/ HTPs in Kwara State.
Madam Msemburi explained that the activities, policies and programmes of the Ministry aligns with the core values of UNFPA in the country and stated that Kwara State will be recommended as the flagship state for the 9th Country programme based on its human capacity who are able to deliver on all responsibilities assigned to them.
The State Focal Person, Mrs Gloria Enueze, reaffirmed the UNFPA’s commitment to the Ministry and disclosed that the One-Stop Centre and Adolescent-Friendly Corner will be completed in record time, noting that it will provide the needed assistance for survivors of GBV/HTPs in the state.
Both of them reiterated their commitment to deepening partnership for the advancement of women, children and adolescents in Kwara State.
