AJAOKUTA FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY: A JUSTIFIED MANDATE, A CASE FOR ANOTHER TERM

In politics, the true test of a mandate is not the noise that announced it, but the work that follows it.
Two years after he was first elected to represent Ajaokuta Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly, Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, SEA, has turned that test into a reference point. The verdict from the 14 wards is already forming: this is a justified mandate, and it requires another term.
Another term is not about continuity for its own sake. It is about consolidation. It is about giving a lawmaker who has found his footing the room to bring his ingenuity and experience to bear, to deepen what he started, and to make sustainability the centerpiece of representation. In the lawmaking chamber, laws are not made in one session. Impact is built over time, through relationships, through follow-through, and through the experience that only time in office can give. To interrupt a winning streak at the point where momentum is highest is to trade progress for experiment.
Let it be said clearly to the good people of Ajaokuta: election is not a period for change when change is not needed. When a representative has proven himself by work, by access, and by results, the wise thing is not to start over. The wise thing is to build on what is working.
Ajaokuta has a history of rewarding good representation with another term. The case of Hon. Sanni makes that tradition even more compelling, because in just one term he has touched every sphere of representation. As a Barrister, community activist and former Chairman of Ajaokuta Social Mega Group, he came into the House prepared. Within his first tenure he positioned himself among the early movers, counted among the first eleven in active contributions to lawmaking and in moving people-oriented motions that have gone beyond debate to touch lives directly. On the House Committees on Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Development, he has sponsored bills and pushed motions focused on youth employment, strengthening agricultural value chains, and local government autonomy — issues that speak directly to the daily realities of Ajaokuta people.
Across the constituency the evidence is physical and it is being used daily. Motorised boreholes in Steel Township have ended the struggle for water for thousands. One hundred and twenty solar poles carrying 360 street lights now light up major market hubs, extending business hours and making nights safer. Two blocks of six classrooms each at Community High School Eganyi and Government Science High School Adogo have eased congestion and given students a better environment to learn. On roads and access, 42 kilometers of feeder roads have been resurfaced to cut travel time and reduce the cost of moving farm produce, while new bridges have linked once-isolated villages to main markets.
What stands SEA out is that he moved beyond the politics of tokenism to the politics of systems. More than 3,000 youths and women across the 14 wards have benefitted from his mega empowerment programmes. The support was deliberate: refrigerators, sewing machines, grinding machines, POS terminals, generators, fertilizer and farm inputs — tools that match how people actually earn a living here. Three hundred beneficiaries received ₦100,000 cash support to stabilize their businesses. Others were trained in ICT for persons with disabilities, in tailoring, carpentry, and were given micro-credit support for MSMEs so that skills translate into income. Every intervention followed needs assessment, and every ward, including minority groups, was carried along.
Beyond programmes, his humanitarian support has been steady and quiet. Students have been sponsored. Families in crisis have received help. Widows and the vulnerable have been remembered without fanfare. That same spirit explains why he is widely described as the most accessible lawmaker the constituency has had. Through townhall meetings, bi-monthly engagements with ward leaders, and direct response channels via WhatsApp and SMS, constituents do not have to wait for election season to be heard.
In a federal constituency as diverse as Ajaokuta, politics can divide. SEA has united. His support cuts across Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo communities. The 14 APC Ward Chairmen have passed a vote of confidence. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has described him as humble, honest, cooperative and a unifying force. That is the kind of political capital that delivers both at home and in Abuja.
The people are saying it in their own words. Hajia Fatima in Ajaokuta township notes, “Since Hon. Sanni brought boreholes and solar lights, our night market thrives and children no longer walk miles for water.” Musa K, a farmer, adds, “His scholarship saved my son’s education. He listens and acts fast.”
2027 is not the time to replace a winning formula. It is the time to deepen it. With one term, SEA has laid the foundation. With another term, he will consolidate. He will bring more legislative ingenuity to bear, push with greater weight for the resuscitation of Ajaokuta Steel Company, and ensure that the sustainability of projects already started is protected. Infrastructure needs maintenance. Empowerment needs scale. Laws need follow-through. All of these require the experience and relationships he now has.
Without mincing words, all eyes are on Ajaokuta Federal Constituency to once again do the needful. To file out en masse and reelect a man described by every measured standard as an effective lawmaker. A man who has made Ajaokuta an envy in just his first term, not by promises, but by verifiable delivery.
A justified mandate deserves a justified renewal.
For Ajaokuta, that renewal is Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem.
