There is wild jubilation in Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State following the installation of solar-powered street lights across Ogori and Magongo communities by Major General Erema Akerejola (Rtd).

The massive solar light project, which has ended years of darkness and insecurity at night, cut across strategic locations in the two sister communities.

In Ogori, the lights were installed at Bishop Ajomo Road, Odon Road, Oyara, Udo, Aiyetoro, Sambisa Joint and Eji while in Magongo community, the installations covered Ozuma, Ededoyi in Obinoyin Ward, Redeemed Church area and Asilele in Ugugu behind the Catholic Mission, as well as UBE and Post Office areas in Magongo Community.

Residents who spoke on the development said the intervention has transformed night life and improved security in the affected areas.

According to one of the community leaders who spoke on behalf of Odon Otamurun Road residents, the retired Army General has consistently shown uncommon love and commitment to the growth of Ogori land.

“Gen. Akerejola has brought light to us in every sense. From Ozuma to Ededoyi in Obinoyin Ward, to Redeem, Asilele behind Catholic Mission, UBE and Post Office in Magongo, and Udo, Aiyetoro, Oyara, Sambisa Joint, Bishop Ajomo Road and Eji in Ogori, everywhere is now bright at night. This is timely, necessary and a long-desired prayer answered,” he said.

Beyond the street light project, the community listed other interventions by the General to include payment of school fees for indigent students, facilitation of employment opportunities for Ogori sons and daughters into various federal agencies and parastatals, and financial support to market women to boost their businesses.

“Gen. Akerejola is not just a military icon, he is a father to all. He pays school fees, he helps our youths get jobs, he supports our market women. He has been doing this for long,” the resident said.

He prayed for God’s continued blessings, strength and wisdom for the General as he ascends the throne of his forefathers, expressing optimism that Ogori land will witness more development under his traditional leadership.

In 2024, he was also instrumental to the Nigerian Army constructing and asphalting a 1.6km road linking Community Comprehensive High School, Ogori with township roads, for which he was conferred with the Ogori National Merit Award during the 2024 Ovia Osese Festival.
