A retired senior military officer and former Director of Army Logistics, Major General Erema Akerejola, has donated over 30 solar panels to Magongo community in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State to improve public lighting and enhance security.

The donation is aimed at illuminating the community at night, improving the living conditions of residents and enhancing the overall outlook of the area.

According to General Akerejola, the gesture was part of his commitment to the development and welfare of the people of Ogori-Magongo, stressing the importance of providing basic amenities that would improve the quality of life in the community.

The retired general, who was recently appointed the Uboro of Ogori Land, also called on the sons and daughters of Ogori-Magongo to embrace unity and work together for the progress of the area.

He emphasised that there should be no division between Ogori and Magongo, noting that both communities share a common identity and should collaborate to achieve their collective aspirations.

Akerejola pledged to sustain his contributions to the development of Ogori-Magongo, assuring the people of his continued commitment to initiatives that would promote their welfare and improve the community.

Speaking with journalists in Magongo, the President of Magongo Development Association (MDA), Jordan Akpata, commended the retired general for the donation, describing it as a welcome development that would benefit residents.

Akpata said the installation of the solar panels would improve the social life of the people by providing lighting at night and creating a more conducive environment for community activities.

He added that improved lighting would also strengthen security surveillance, potentially deter criminal activities and enhance the safety of residents.

The MDA president urged other well-to-do individuals from Ogori and Magongo to emulate Akerejola by investing in projects that would address the needs of the people and contribute to community development.

He stressed that sustainable development would remain difficult to achieve without unity and cooperation between the two communities, calling on their leaders, stakeholders and residents to put aside differences and pursue common goals.

Akpata further noted that collective efforts by indigenes and other stakeholders were necessary to attract more development projects and improve the welfare of residents across Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area.
