In a move to improve healthcare access and strengthen economic activities at the grassroots, the Ogidi Omo Movement has extended free medical services and financial empowerment to residents drawn from the fifteen political wards of Ijumu Local Government Area in Kogi State, with women among the major beneficiaries of the initiative.
The humanitarian intervention, spearheaded by Dr. Funsho Olumoko, featured a free medical outreach across the three Districts of Ijumu LGA, alongside financial support for women drawn from the political wards to boost their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
The medical exercise attracted a large number of beneficiaries from different communities, with doctors and specialists attending to residents with various health challenges, including eye conditions and other general medical complaints.
Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Olumoko disclosed that the financial empowerment programme was designed to reach 200 women across the three district of the local government area, explaining that the exercise in Ijumu would be followed by another phase in December.
He added that the medical outreach was open to everyone, irrespective of background, as part of efforts to make essential healthcare services more accessible to people at the grassroots.
According to him, the initiative represents his commitment to giving back to the people and improving their quality of life, while acknowledging the support received from the Kogi State Government.
Dr. Olumoko expressed his admiration for Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, describing his association with the governor as a source of pride and reaffirming his commitment to supporting initiatives that bring tangible benefits to ordinary citizens.
Some of the women who benefited from the financial support expressed gratitude for the intervention, offering prayers for Dr. Olumoko and Governor Ododo while pledging to utilise the assistance to strengthen their businesses.
They described the financial support as timely, noting that the assistance would provide relief and create opportunities for them to expand their economic activities and better support their families.
Stakeholders at the event also commended the initiative, observing that grassroots empowerment programmes could help address economic challenges by providing small-scale business owners with the resources needed to improve their operations.
They further noted that the combination of financial empowerment and free medical services demonstrated the importance of addressing both the economic and health needs of communities, particularly among people who may find it difficult to afford such services.
The intervention, according to stakeholders would reveal the role of community-based humanitarian initiatives in complementing public efforts to improving healthcare delivery, support small businesses and enhance the living conditions of residents across Kogi State.
