Ogori land in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State is set to roll out the drums as retired Major-General Erema Akerejola will be formally invested as the Ubuoro of Ogori Land.

The investiture ceremony, according to an official invitation released by the community, will hold on Monday, October 26, 2026, at Okpa Quarters, Ogori, beginning at 12:00 p.m.

The event is expected to attract traditional rulers, retired and serving military officers, political leaders, and sons and daughters of Ogori at home and in the diaspora.

Maj.-Gen. Akerejola, an Ogori-born retired General, served the Nigerian Army meritoriously for 35 years before his recent retirement.

Until his retirement, he served as the Chief of Logistics, Nigerian Army, and previously as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Benin, and Commander, Corps of Supply and Transport.

His career spanned key logistics and field operations roles, including contributions to counter-insurgency efforts in the North-East and reforms in the Army’s transport and supply systems.

The retired General was honoured in April with a colourful pull-out parade at the Supply and Transport Barracks in Benin City, Edo State, where senior officers described him as a disciplined and courageous leader whose commitment to national unity and operational excellence inspired subordinates and peers.

Since his retirement, Akerejola has remained active in community development.

In an interview on the sidelines of the 2026 Ovia Osese festival, he said civilian life was a new phase filled with promise, though he misses “waking up every morning and putting on the khaki.”

Only last week, he donated several solar panels to Magongo and Ogori communities to illuminate public spaces and boost security surveillance, a gesture the Magongo Development Association (MDA) and Ogori Descendants’ Union (ODU), described as significant to local development.

The title of Ubuoro is one of the revered traditional titles in Ogori land, conferred on distinguished indigenes who have brought honour to the community through service and integrity.

Community leaders say the investiture of General Akerejola is in recognition of his meritorious service to the nation and his continued commitment to the unity and development of Ogori and Magongo, which share a common identity.

All sons and daughters of Ogori are cordially invited to the historic ceremony.
