Sen. Sunday Stephen Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has rejected the judgment of the Federal High Court Abuja on the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kogi West senatorial primary election, saying he remains the candidate of the party for the 2027 election.
Karimi stated this in his reaction to the judgment in the suit filed by Hon. Samuel Bamidele Aro challenging his emergence as the flagbearer of the APC.
He said he remained unperturbed by the judgment, describing it as unfortunate and contrary to the evidence before the court.
“It is crystal clear that the judgment is contrary to the evidence before the Court and it is unfortunate that the trial judge overruled himself, having ruled in not less than three similar cases on the issue of statute of limitation in pre-election proceedings as well as proper authority to conduct and determine winner of political party primary elections,” Karimi said.
He said the Nigerian legal system admits of redress through the appellate system and that he would pursue his rights within the law due to his firm belief in the resilience of the judicial system.
Karimi said all Kogi West citizens, the entire Kogi State and even Aro himself knew that Aro never participated in the said primary election, yet allegedly made up documents to establish falsehood.
He alleged that the judgment was the handiwork of some persons in the state who had been desperate and consistent in persecuting him to protect their hold on the resources of Kogi State, which he had voiced loudly against.
“I remain strong and undeterred and my campaign continues with adequate zeal and vigour.
“My detractors do not love the Party nor Mr President. I remain the number one supporter of Mr President in Kogi State,” he said.
Karimi urged his supporters to remain strong and steadfast while he pursues redress in court, saying the development was part of what they must pass through to reach their destination in their quest for good governance.
