RT HON DAVID ZECHARIAH REPRESENTING IDAH FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY THE LARGEST CONSTITUENT IN KOGI STATE ADVOCATES FOR YOUTH RE-ORIENTATION IN KOGI STATE.
My service started from the church long before getting to the House of Representatives, proposals were made to ordain him as a pastor which he turned down.
Hon David Zechariah who granted the State Coordinator of Nigeria National Volunteer Service an interview on his activities since he was elected, opened up discussion by humbly appreciating the organization by finding him worthy of the interview, Rt Hon Zechariah informed us of his passion to serve as a young man growing up in the community, this has actually transformed him into a servant leader even before he got to the house of Representatives.
He said that there’s need to identify one’s capacity, and real character before engaging him or her in any assignment if you want result.
I will continue to do that till I die either in the house or not, so far we have contributed modestly to our constituency but I feel I need to do more, I don’t want to blow my trumpet, I’m inviting your organization to my constituency to do some investigation yourself to enable your conviction whether I have done well or not.
The love of the people and putting food on their table was a passion I got from the church.
That’s where the orientation of our youths comes to bear, very soon it will be made public, no matter the type of investment you make in the State or your immediate constituency, and you forget to engage in human capital development you’re wasting your resources and energy because one day some angry youths will wake up and start destroying them, I took my experience from what happened during the end SARS saga.
There are lots of plans in the pipeline for major commissioning and flagging off of employment scheme which your organization will be invited to witness, put apart from those physical therapy and feeding the less privilege I’m doing, there’s need to touch human capacity development.
I will take this project far by consulting my National Assembly brothers to actually do a real surgical operation to the minds of our youths through direct and face to face review of where we are coming from and where we should be in the next ten years.
I have started addressing the human psychology of youths by asking questions, how did you grow, what influenced your attitude, and what can we do together to bring needed change in our community, without addressing these basic fundamental issues from the source we cannot get it right, these young ones have morals and want to integrate with the public but because we’ve stigmatized them as bad boys, they become reserved and resolved to do evil continually.
I’m convinced that if proper and guinea reconciliation is conducted by engaging our youths, the paradigm will change and it will be better for all to coexist. If the looming crises and insecurity in our nation is to be frontally addressed, our leaders in all strata of development must start addressing youth restiveness in your own areas which I have started in my constituency. I challenge nation builders, religious organizations and opinion moulders to start this project before it consumes us by procrastination start now.
We are in a digital age and we shouldn’t continue to operate in the past because that will not change narrative.
