A renowned Ilorin-based Islamic cleric in Kwara State, Dr. Abdulkadir Salman Solagberu, has been appointed as a member of the International Islamic body, the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS).
According to a statement by the General Secretary of the Union, Dr Muhammad Ali al-Solaby, the Scholar was appointed into the Islamic Jurisprudence Researchers Division of the influential body of respected global Muslim scholars.
According to the official website of the union, the Union has over 90,000 members across the world.
The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) is an organisation of Muslim Islamic theologians founded in 2004 and headed by Ahmad al-Raysuni .
Their focus is said to be on uniting the Islamic world across sectoral divides and they also have keen interest in the sciences of Shari’ah and Islamic Civilization.
Reacting to his appointment, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, CFR, Sultan of Sokoto & President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, described it as a well deserved one considering the antecidents of Dr Salman Sholagberu in the propagation of Islam.
The Sultan urged him to continue to emphasise more in promoting and uniting Muslims across the country and even beyond and prayed God to give him the strength, sound health and guide him aright in the discharge of his God-destined duties.
In a related congratulatory message, the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, IEDPU, the umbrella body of natives of Ilorin, commended the appointee for his numerous and relentless positive contributions to the promotion of the religious and cultural heritage of the community and also Internationally.
The Union charged Dr Salman Solagberu, who is also the Proprietor of Darul Kitab Wa Sunna College of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Ilorin, to continue to serve as a role model to others within and outside the Ilorin Emirate.
Similarly, a former Chairman of the Board of the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) who is also the Danmasani of Ilorin , Engineer Suleiman Yahaya Alapansanpa described the appointment as a well deserved honour.
He explained that “his appointment as a member of the international body did not come to the Ilorin Emirate Durbar Committee who Dr Salman Sholagberu is a member as a surprise as he has always believed that his contributions as a scholar, preacher and teacher of Arabic and Islamic knowledge and culture deserved to be honoured and rewarded.”
Alapansanpa, similarly congratulated the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, on the recognition granted to a distinguished citizen of Kwara State.
Dr Salman Solagberu, the Proprietor of the proposed Darul Kitab University at Agbeyangi community in Ilorin was also described as an hardworking and exemplary scholar who has done very well for himself, Ilorin Emirate, and Nigeria over the years by Engineer Alapasanpa.
