Kogi Assembly Passes NEWMAP Bill, Includes Establishment of ICT Department
Kogi State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill for a law for the establishment of the State Erosion and Watershed Management Agency, NEWMAP.
The passage followed the clause by clause consideration of the bill by the Committee of the whole House.
The Member representing Ijumu Constituency, Hon. Kilani Olumo had called the attention of the House during deliberation on the bill to the need to include the establishment of an Information and Communication Technology Department in the Agency.
Hon. Olumo called the attention of the house to the fact that the ICT Department should stand on its own in view of its importance to any establishment.
“Mr. Chairman, I want to suggest that the ICT Department stand on its own and not be under the Project Manager. This is what is obtainable in other establishment because this is important to the development of any agency whether Government of private.”
The Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole while reacting to the observation described it as a welcome idea.
