The Chairman, House Committee On Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Idrees Aliyu Maikudi has expressed optimism that the 2025 Budget proposal will meet the needs of the Education sector.
Hon. Maikudi disclosed this in an address during the 2025 Budget Defense of Education sector in the Kogi State House of Assembly on Thursday.
The lawmaker who is the member representing Kogi-Koton-Karfe State Council, said the budget defense which is one of the important legislative duties, will determine the income and expenditure of the Education sector.
According to him, the exercise is not about fault-finding or placing blame but to ensure that the allocations to the Ministry, Agencies and Department as well as schools are sufficient to meet their respective mandates and drive meaningful development.
” In his budget presentation on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, highlighted the vision of the “Budget of Inclusive Development.” I assure you that this Legislative Assembly is committed to upholding that vision. We will subject the proposed budget to thorough scrutiny to ensure that it abides by the principles of equity, efficiency and sustainable development.”
Hon Maikudi used the occasion to inform the Ministry, Agencies and Departments that the oversight activities of the Committee in relation to the 2024 fiscal year will take place before the first quarter of 2025.
The lawmaker appreciated the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf and his colleagues for entrusting him with the office and the weighty responsibilities it entails, adding that their confidence in the committee members has inspired them to approach the task with diligence, integrity and a commitment to excellence.
