Kogi Assembly deliberates on 57 bills, adopt 68 motions in Two years
Kogi State House of Assembly on Wednesday revealed that it has deliberated on 57 bills
and adopted 68 motions within the period of two years.
Speaker of the 8th Assembly Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf disclosed this during the house plenty marking the end of the second legislative session.
According to him, 39 bills were considered in the first session and 18 in the second adding that they include 19 private member bills and 37 executive bills, reflecting both their initiative and collaboration with the executive arm of government.
“We have also adopted 68 motions, considered 30 reports, and processed 26 public petitions, each reflecting our deep engagement with the aspirations and concerns of our constituents.
“The resolutions adopted and issued by this Honourable House totalled an impressive 236 over the two sessions. These resolutions speak to the tangible outcomes of our debates, investigations, and oversight responsibilities.
“We have also confirmed 87 public officers, reinforcing our constitutional role in checks and balances. These numbers are not just statistics, they are a testament to our commitment to service, transparency and progress” the speaker said.
While assuring that the current 8th Assembly is committed to focusing on legislative efforts that bring real relief and improvements to the lives of Kogi citizens, the Speaker said
“That is why we remain vigilant and proactive in addressing issues that enhance the well-being of our people.
“You may recall that shortly after assuming office, the very first law enacted by this House was the Bill to establish Kogi State University, Kabba, along with related provisions in 2023.
“Today, by the grace of God, that institution is on the verge of graduating its first set of students, an achievement that brings pride not only to Kogi State but to the entire nation. This significant achievement serves as clear evidence to the positive impact of this Assembly on the education sector.
“Additionally, our commitment to education is reflected in the ongoing provision of free education across Kogi, as well as the repeal and re-enactment of the state scholarship law, which has ensured that students of Kogi origin in tertiary institutions receive bursaries with ease and full accessibility. As we celebrate this milestone, we are reminded that our journey is ongoing”.
He pointed out that the Assembly remain committed to upholding the principles of transparency, accountability, and service.
“Our focus will continue to be on enacting laws that promote social justice, economic growth, and the overall well-being of our citizens.
“Dear constituents, our teamwork with the executive branch has been built on mutual respect and a shared goal of improving the lives of everyone in Kogi State. Because of this close cooperation, we have been able to put important policies into action and pass laws that really make a difference” he added.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
It gives me great pleasure to be here today as we mark the second anniversary of the 8th Kogi State House of Assembly. This occasion is not just a celebration of time passed, but a recognition of service, sacrifice, and sincere commitment to the progress of our dear state.
Two years may seem like a short period in the journey of a four-year tenure, but what you have achieved in this time speaks volumes about your dedication to the mandate entrusted to you by the people of Kogi State. I commend every member of this Honourable House for consistently placing the interest of our people above personal or partisan considerations.
Your legislative work has been remarkable. The bills you have passed so far have laid solid foundations for effective governance, institutional strengthening, and socio-economic development across the state. These are not just laws on paper, they are tools for transformation and progress, and your efforts have not gone unnoticed.
Beyond legislation, your oversight functions have been thorough and impactful. You have held the executive to account in a way that reflects maturity, responsibility, and a genuine concern for transparency and good governance. Your commitment has contributed immensely to the quality of service delivery in our administration.
I also wish to appreciate the atmosphere of collaboration that has defined our relationship. You have maintained the independence of the legislature with honour and dignity, yet shown readiness to work in synergy with the executive arm for the good of Kogi State. That is the kind of leadership our people deserve, principled, people-focused, and purposeful.
As you stand at the midpoint of your tenure, I congratulate you all and urge you to remain steadfast in the service of those who elected you. The journey ahead is just as important as the path already travelled. May the same zeal, discipline, and unity of purpose continue to guide your work.
Let me specially acknowledge the Rt. Honourable Speaker for his leadership, the Principal Officers for their support, and all members for the cooperation and collective vision you have demonstrated so far. I also extend my sincere appreciation to the Clerk of the House and the Assembly Service Commission for creating and sustaining the administrative backbone that supports the legislature in its daily functions.
Together, we have laid the bricks of a stronger, more resilient Kogi State. I look forward to even greater collaboration, more innovation, and a deeper commitment to our shared goals in the years ahead.
