The people of Kupa South and Kupa North have applauded the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf for facilitating the construction of the Giri transverse drain to reconnect the two Wards after being cut-off for some years.
The culvert which links several communities in the two wards has been unpassable for some time, and has affected commerce as the largely farming and trading communities could not transport goods and services to the market.
Several community leaders, including traditional rulers, political office holders, women and youth groups among other stakeholders expressed gratitude to the Speaker for ensuring the restoration of the culvert, saying it is capable of revamping their economy and improve their ties.
Reacting to the development, a chieftain from the area, Alhaji Muhammed Bakogi described the Speaker as a lifesaver who understands the needs of the people and said their decision to back him for another term is justified.
According to Bakogi, he is not surprised by the quality of the project because Rt Hon Umar is a man that is passionate about improved welfare for the communities he represents in the Assembly.
In his wards, “This bridge is very important to the communities. In fact, it is crucial not social and trade lives of our people because it is a link between Kupa North and Kupa South Wards and connects many communities. Now we can easily travel between the wards and among the villages and hamlet in the areas.”
Also speaking, a prominent youth activist, Comrade Umaru Jiya, said the project has been the cry of the people and that the Speaker has wiped their tears.
He said there is no doubt that Rt Hon Umar is grounded in the knowledge of the areas, hence his decision to construct the culvert to bring smiles to his people.
Other respondents who also had great things to say about the project, thanked the speaker for it and expressed their loyalty and commitment to his causes and future aspirations.
