An open letter to his Excellency the Governor Elect of Anambra State Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo. (Bethelight on thehill!)
Your Excellency let me first of all seize this opportunity to congratulate you on your well- deserved victory. I congratulate you and I congratulate the great people of Anambra state.
Myself and millions of Nigerians takes particular interest in your election perhaps far more importantly than even the presidential election itself.
This is not because of politics but because you are one of the few Nigerians who truly understand the intellectual and social dynamism of political economy both in theory and practices, from my experience in politics this is something extremely rare to come about in Nigerian political space. You now have the opportunity to wield ideas as the chief executive officer of a state.
You are not expected to perform magic but we expect that you will be able show in theory and practice how intellectualism, creativity and high principles can drive social change when given the opportunity to handle power.
For the next four years Anambra will be the centre of focus for all the teeming millions of Nigerians who believe that mediocrity and lack of high principles have brought Nigeria to her knees. For the few of us who rightly believe that intellectualism, character, creativity and high principles can rescue Nigeria you are the singular most important symbol of hope politically! To some of us you are a breath of fresh air!
The mandate you have now is beyond the people of Anambra, this mandate includes some of us who believe rightly that politics is better in the hands of the intellectuals and economic philosophers, we sincerely hope that you will match this demand with high principles and the visionary discipline and commitment to make it happen.
Just one light on the hill is enough! the last light on the hill that shined the light of intellectualism and progressive politics was Chief Obafemi Awolowo. You have a chance to be the light on the hill after 40 years of politics of darkness, mediocrity and greed!
Yes, you might not be the Mohandas K Gandhi or Nelson Mandela of Nigeria but please be the Chief Obafemi Awolowo of Anambra state, be the Tom Bradley of Anambra and be the Lee Myung-bak of Anambra.
It is not going to be easy it’s going to be difficult! Why not? Intellectualism, social change and great vision is not meant for the simpleton it is for the hard mind so do it!
Be the light on the hill!
