I would have thought that the wise decision made in 2021 to cancel the Egbe Unity Day would have been replicated in 2025. The level of insecurity in 2021 is a childβs play compared to what we have in 2025.
To show respect for the dead, a community deeply traumatised and our soldiers doing a great job against banditry Egbe Unity Day should have been differed! Alternatively, the Unity Day should be replaced with security summit or something else that seeks to find a security solution.
This is not the time for fanfare, ceremony and parties, it is time for soul searching, taking stocks, strategising and reflection. Community leaders and stakeholders should show strong leadership, sense of purpose and empathy.
Beyond Insecurity deep level ecological degradation, environment destruction and siphoning of our mineral resources is massively going on.
We can do better!
