Kwara: 25-year-old man in NSCDC net for alleged assault, attempted fraud

A 25-year-old man, Muhammed Abubakar, has been arrested by the Kwara state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for alleged assault on a civil defence officer and attempts to defraud a POS operator and a filling station attendant.
The state NSCDC spokesman, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Ilorin, the state capital, on Saturday.
According to him, the suspect committed the offence at Amoyo area in Ifelodun local government area of Kwara state.
He said: “On Saturday 11/12/2021, we received a distress call at our Amoyo division over a case of assault, attempted fraud and stealing by trick levelled against one Muhammed Abubakar, 25, who was accused of making attempts to defraud a filling station attendant, Abdulraheem Nafisat, of a sum of over N50,000.
“The suspect bought fuel and yougourt product in a filling station in Amayo area. But instead of paying for the fuel and yougourt he bought, he again asked a POS operator at the filling station to transfer the sum of N50, 000 to his account which was done by the POS operator. The suspect was expected to pay cash to the POS operator, but he declined and made a suspicious attempt to leave the filling station without making all the necessary payments.
“The POS operator and the filling station attendant later raised the alarm which attracted officers of the NSCDC and the man was picked up. He reportedly assaulted one of the NSCDC officers during the course of investigation.
“Further interrogations revealed that the suspect was a serial fraudster who had earlier defrauded a hotel receptionist and also one supermarket attendant in the area.
“In the meantime, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Iskilu Ayinla Makinde, has been briefed of the incident and ordered full scale investigations to be conducted after which the suspect will be charged to court.”
