

Kwara: Alleged serial POS fraudster in NSCDC net

An alleged serial POS fraudster and fake alert scammer, Victor Adebayo, 24, has been arrested by the operatives of the Kwara state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for defrauding some unsuspecting people of the sum of N700,000.
This was disclosed in a statement in Ilorin, the state capital, on Friday by the Command’s spokesman, Babawale Zaid Afolabi,
The spokesman said the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Makinde Iskil Ayinla, has therefore appealed to the POS operators and the entire people in the State to be wary of the activities criminal elements who are going around with the intention of defrauding them of their money.
According to the spokesman of the NSCDC, the suspect, who reportedly claimed to reside in Lagos, usually sent alerts to unsuspecting POS operators and would now collect cash from them and disappeared into thin air.
“On the 13th January 2022, operatives of the NSCDC Intelligence and investigations department picked up a suspected serial fraudster who has been going around defrauding people of their hard – earned money. The suspect usually went around in his Toyota Corolla car and very neat in appearance and would meet POS operators to give him cash and he would now make a fake transfer which he has programmed on his phone,” Babawale narrated.
He stated further that the suspect had really perfected the dubious act, adding that the suspect confirmed that he has been doing it for more than two years.
“The suspect would sometime pose like a pastor to convince the POS operators or tell them that his wife is in labour in the hospital and needed certain amount of money,” the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, some POS operators in Ilorin metropolis have been thronging the Kwara Command of the NSCDC in order to catch a glimpse of the alleged serial fraudster, including those who had reportedly fallen victim of the alleged fraudster.
