Governor Ododo Reaffirms Commitment to Culture, Girl-Child Education at Ovia Osese Festival

The Kogi State Government has renewed its pledge to safeguard cultural heritage, advance girl-child education, and deepen unity among its diverse communities in the state.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo stated this on Saturday at the grand finale of the 2026 Ovia Osese cultural festival in Ogori, Ogori-Magongo local government area of Kogi state.

The governor who was represented by his deputy Joel Salifu , described the festival as more than a celebration, noting that Ovia Osese embodies the history, identity, and values of the Ogori people, saying it also serving as a platform for education, tourism, and economic development.

Governor Ododo who stressed the importance of educating and empowering the girl child, noted that Ogori has become a model community with increasing school enrolment among girls.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting girls through targeted education and empowerment initiatives.

He commended the organisers, particularly the President of Ogori Descendants Union (ODU), Dr. Gabriel Aiso, for making this year’s edition larger and more impactful, assuring government maximum support to the festival.

Earlier, the President of ODU Dr. Aiso , said the story of Ogori is the story of a community deeply rooted in culture, discipline and excellence, affirming that the forefathers of the community has built a society founded on strong moral values, communal responsibility, respect for tradition and unwavering commitment to progress.

“These values are not relics of the past, they are living principles that continue to guide us today. That is why the Ovia Osese festival holds such profound significance for our people. It is not merely a celebration , it is the living expression of our heritage” he stated.
