The Ag. Rector of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Dr. (Mrs) Felicia Olabisi Awolola, has called for increased patronage of locally produced goods to boost the local economy and enhance the educational experience for students at the Polytechnic.

Dr. (Mrs.) Awolola made the call during a visit to the wood workshop, at the Polytechnic’s Institute of Skills Acquisition ahead of Tetfund assessment of the skills development interventions for 2025 beneficiary polytechnics.

The Ag. Rector who was accompanied by other Principal Officers challenged the workshop staff to produce high-quality furniture that could be purchased by the institution and staff before seeking buyers outside the Polytechnic.

She emphasized the importance of supporting local production and ensuring that the products meet high standards of quality.

She also suggested that students could work in groups on projects which she said would not only create income but also give students valuable practical experience related to their courses of study.

The Director of the Institute, Engr. (Mrs.) Onipede Elizabeth expressed her commitment to exploring this idea further.
She acknowledged the potential benefits of combining student projects with local craftsmanship.
