By Stephen Olufemi Oni, Ilorin
An early morning inferno has gutted a shopping complex in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, destroying goods worth millions of Naira .
The incident occurred few minutes past eight this morning and badly affected four out of the 24 shops in the complex.
The quick intervention by the operatives of the State Fire Service reportedly saved the complex from being totally razed by the ravaging inferno.
According to the Fire Service spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, the inferno occurred due to the careless attitude by “one anonymous person in the area who deliberately set some abandoned tyres on fire”.
Speaking in a chat with newsmen, Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince John Falade, urged the people to always be careful and desist from burning tyres and bush indiscriminately to avoid destruction of property and ensure safety of lives.
Prince Falade said though no life was lost in the fire incident stressed the need for the people to always be at alert for any forms of naked fire in their neighborhoods, especially during this harmattan season..
