Saturday, 3 October through Sunday, 11 October 2026 has been slated for the formal Coronation Ceremony and associated activities of the new Ohindase of Okengwe-Ehi, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Okidi.
The nine-day programme will feature a rich blend of traditional rites, cultural activities and social events, including the formal coronation and installation ceremony, cultural performances, a high-level colloquium, and a series of entertainment programmes. A special reception hosted by the Friends of Ohindase will also form part of the activities.
The Colloquium, scheduled for Monday, 5 October 2026, at AFIMS Hotel, is designed as a platform for intellectual and cultural engagement, providing an opportunity to share ideas and explore innovative approaches to deepening understanding, preservation and promotion of Ebira cultural heritage among the people and across generations.
The colloquium is expected to attract sons and daughters of Ebira from Nigeria and the diaspora, as well as traditional rulers, academics, community leaders, professionals and other stakeholders interested in the preservation and advancement of Ebira cultural heritage.
Several distinguished personalities are expected to grace the occasion, including His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, Executive Governor of Kogi State, and prominent traditional and community leaders. Prof. Sunny Ododo is expected to deliver the keynote address at the colloquium.
The coronation and installation of HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Okidi, the Ohindase of Okengwe-Ehi, therefore provides a fitting opportunity not only to celebrate a significant traditional institution but also to reflect on the richness of Ebira cultural heritage and, more importantly, examine the role that our shared heritage can play in promoting peaceful coexistence, unity, mutual respect and sustainable community development.
The people of Ebira, friends of Ohindase Okengwe-Ehi, cultural enthusiasts and members of the public are warmly invited to participate in the historic celebration.
