Hon. Umar Yahaya (Connect), Member Representing Omala State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, has continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to education through interventions aimed at expanding access, supporting outstanding students, empowering young people with digital skills, and advocating for better learning environments across Omala.
These initiatives reflect a practical approach to addressing some of the educational challenges confronting our people.

A. FREE JAMB REGISTRATION
Hon. Umar Yahaya (Connect) facilitated free JAMB registration for over 400 students, helping to remove financial barriers that could prevent indigent students from sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The initiative has provided many young people with an opportunity to pursue admission into tertiary institutions and continue their educational journey.
B. SCHOLARSHIP INITIATIVE
As part of his commitment to encouraging academic excellence, Hon. Umar Yahaya instituted a merit-based scholarship initiative designed to recognise and support outstanding students from Omala.
2025: He awarded ₦1 million to Benjamin Ojonedu Jemimah, recognised for achieving the highest JAMB score in Omala, alongside additional financial support and assistance towards securing admission to study Medicine and Surgery.
2026: Following another outstanding academic performance, Benjamin Ojonedu Jemimah again emerged as the recipient of the ₦1 million scholarship, with continued upkeep support and assistance towards securing admission to study Law.
This initiative sends a clear message that academic excellence deserves recognition and support.
C. SPONSORSHIP OF TERTIARY EDUCATION
Hon. Umar Yahaya has also provided educational sponsorship and financial assistance to over 27 students across various tertiary institutions in Kogi State.
Through this intervention, beneficiaries have received support towards their education, helping to reduce the financial burden associated with pursuing higher education.
D. DIGITAL & ICT EMPOWERMENT
Recognising the growing importance of technology in education and employment, Hon. Umar Yahaya organised computer and digital literacy training programmes and provided laptops to over 30 students across Kogi East.
The initiative is aimed at equipping young people with practical digital skills needed for computer-based examinations, academic research, digital learning, and future employment opportunities.
E. LEGISLATIVE INTERVENTION IN EDUCATION
Beyond direct interventions, Hon. Umar Yahaya has used his position in the Kogi State House of Assembly to advocate for improved basic education infrastructure across Omala.
He sponsored and advanced bills and motions advocating for the rehabilitation and improvement of Local Education Authority (LEA) primary schools, including schools in Oji-Aji, Icheke Ogane, Ojuwo-Ajimadi, and other communities across the Local Government Area.
These legislative efforts are focused on improving learning environments and creating better conditions for pupils, teachers, and communities.

From JAMB registration to scholarships, tertiary education sponsorship, ICT empowerment, and legislative advocacy, Hon. Umar Yahaya (Connect) continues to demonstrate that representation should translate into tangible opportunities for the people.
