Leadership failure has been the bane of Nigeria and with the forthcoming elections, there is a loud call for a paradigm shift so that the country can make progress in all spheres. Col. Gboluga Erosumi Mosugu, a retired military officer, who is a presidential aspirant under the platform of one of the oldest political parties in Nigeria, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), aspires to change the poor leadership narrative so that Nigerians could experience what effective leadership can change their lives for the best.
IN THE BEGINING
Gboluga Erosumi Mosugu was born in Ikare, Ondo State but hails from Ogori in Kogi State. He had his early childhood at both Ikare and in Zaria, Kaduna State. He attended the famed Nigerian Military School, Zaria, and then graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1982. Being a soldier and having been sponsored by the Nigerian Army, he was subsequently commissioned into the army. While he served in the army, he attended several courses both in Nigeria and abroad. These courses imbued him with discipline and leadership skills which he applied variously to see him through 29 years of meritorious service to the fatherland. Notable in his journey through the army was his service as a diplomat at the Nigerian High Commission, London, United Kingdom, which opened his eyes to international diplomacy and policies. Mosugu received many awards including Forces Service Star Meritorious Service Star and Distinguished Service Star amongst others.
Colonel Mosugu (retd) was known for his forthrightness and truth while in service. He defended the truth and was (is) indeed ready to sacrifice his life for it. After 29 years of service, he voluntarily retired from the Nigerian Army in June 2007, with the rank of Colonel. Since his distinguished retirement, Mosugu has been engaged in writing and creative endeavours. He has created many card games, cross word puzzles etc., and is currently writing an online dictionary on perfection, which he sees as lifelong project.
For some years now, Col. Mosugu, a member of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has been in the forefront of the struggle to enthrone a leadership in Nigeria that is visionary, truthful, compassionate and effective. A leadership that will live by its words, taking inspiration from the Nigerian people and working every day to eliminate poverty, hunger, illiteracy and disease from our nation. As he seeks to fly the flag of the PRP in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election Col. Mosugu has promised to get to work with his body, spirit and soul from day one.
He is passionate and committed to the Nigerian project and is ready to serve, having acquired adequate training, discipline and knowledge during his travels within and around the world. He believes that with focus and the leadership taking decisions from informed points of views, Nigeria can become a truly peaceful and prosperous nation of happy citizens.
COL. GBOLUGA MOSUGU AND HIS UNCOMMON ATTRIBUTES
Col. Gboluga Mosugu, is a man with a humble beginning. He is a person who has the requisite leadership qualities required at this time in the chequered history of Nigeria. He is honest and frank to a fault. Col. Gboluga Mosugu is a dye-in-the wool progressive with unquenchable patriotism for his fatherland and an insatiable appetite for challenges as well as tenacity of purpose, all combined to make him the leader that Nigeria needs. Whatever anyone may feel towards Col. Mosugu no one is likely to accuse him of a lack of competence or enthusiasm towards the task of rebuilding Nigeria. If anything, his critics are more likely to accuse him of being too passionate and committed to national reconstruction.
Professor Chinua Achebe in his delightful book, “The Trouble with Nigeria” he identified leadership as the most important problem facing Nigeria. Achebe had said in the book,”……. the problem with Nigeria is simply and squarely failure of leadership. The Nigerian problem is the unwillingness or inability of its leaders to rise to the responsibility, to rise to the challenge of personal example which is the hallmark of true leadership”. In its limited sense, leadership denotes a clear-headed vision of goals to be pursued, a conscience and willingness to be led by it, readiness to lead by example and above all, recognition by the leaders that leadership is service to humanity. Of all the salutary attributes of leadership the one that bears the greatest expression in a democratic clime is that which places high premium on service to humanity. That means putting other people first, it means equity, justice, fairness and godliness in the management of public affairs and the delivery of democratic dividends. Close and honest watchers of the political development in Nigeria would readily admit that Col. Mosugu will be a leader with a difference. A man that always matches his words with action.
The Ogori born new breed politician strongly believes failure will never overtake him because his determination to succeed is strong enough. He is a student of Hilde Bigelow who says, “A man is selfish not for pursuing his own good, but for neglecting his neighbours.” He is an advocate of selfless service to the people and not to self-first. He is one of the very few personalities who still believes and see in Nigeria a great future. He is a leader who will go to the extent of inconveniencing himself to make sure that the people’s welfare is catered for. He is a resourceful personality and highly talented in resource management. He is a strong advocate of good education for the youths and an apostle of job creation for the unemployed.
LET US GIVE MOSUGU ALL THE SUPPORT
The sweet story of Col. Gboluga Erosumi Mosugu (rtd) depicts a life of service to mankind. Through hard work, he has attained great heights and he is inspired to achieve more but this time for his beloved Nigeria. I make bold to say that Nigerians have gotten the right man for the job of president in 2023 in the person of Gboluga Mosugu. He deserves to be supported in his bid to become President of Nigeria in 2023.
When the right individuals are in power just as we look forward to have Col. Mosugu in 2023, roads will be fixed, industries will bounce back, jobs will be available for the youths, excellent health care delivery will be put in place, quality education will be guaranteed and all Nigerians will be secured and safe. According to him, “My passion is to make sure that we bridge the gap between the rich and the poor and to reduce poverty in the land.” He is of the strong opinion that leadership is not just about personal gains but about people’s growth. According to J.F. Kennedy, former President of United States of America, “A society that cannot take care of the many who are poor, cannot save the few who are rich.” Too many out there, a durable leadership is expected to resolve the needs of every citizen in the society especially the poor. This is what the Col. Mosugu has promised to address in Nigeria.
With the 2023 General elections at the corner, the people of Nigeria have a rare opportunity to choose wisely and to support the Peoples Redemption Party(PRP) and by association, the candidacy of Colonel Gboluga Erosumi Mosugu. A new dawn beckons to our beloved Nigeria and Nigerians must grab it with both hands with hope and determination not to let it slip through their fingers by electing Colonel Gboluga Mosugu when he wins the PRP presidential primaries and subsequently fly the party’s flag as its Presidential Candidate in the 2023 Presidential Election.
