Kogi State House of Assembly member on Tuesday dissociated themselves from the purported impeachment of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Matthew Kolawole by the four members of the Assembly.
The lawmakers at a plenary session held at the hallow chamber of the assembly in Lokoja , said they did not signed signatures for impeachment as claimed by the embattled former Deputy Speaker of the House Ahmed Mohammed and Majority Leader Abdullahi Balogun and two others.
Recalled that last week Friday, the four suspended principal officers in an interview with newsmen presented a letter that Speaker, Mathew Kolawole has been impeached for gross misconduct by nineteenth members who appended their signatures on the impeachment notice.
The Lawmakers at plenary session on Tuesday said they collected signatures to pass a vote of confidence on the State Governor Yahaya Bello for his Presidential ambition and not to impeach the Speaker.
They however accused Ahmed Ahmed, Abdullahi Bello, Moses Ododo for using the signatures for the purported impeachment, lamenting that such act is capable of tarnishing the good image and reputation of the legislative arm of government.
The Speaker, Prince Mathew Kolawole in his submission said the suspended lawmakers have violated the house rule and will be investigated by the committee on ethics and privileges.
Also in an interview with journalists after the plenary, the Speaker said there can never be a reconciliation until the committee on ethics and privileges completed investigation on their involvement in manipulating the signatures of the lawmakers.
On the letter written to the impeached lawmakers by the state government directing them to vacate their residents at commissioners quarters in Lokoja , the speaker said twice in the last five years , the head of service wrote them to vacate the residents so that commissioners can occupy the quarters, saying the recent quit notice has nothing to do with the impeachment.
