The Kogi State Government has provided Giant Waste Receptacles and Tricycles for distribution to communities in the State.
Speaking at the commissioning of the items, the representative of His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Victor Adewale Omofaiye, in his keynote address at the event, enjoined the benefitting communities to ensure that the equipment are always maintained properly, and equally ensure that they are only used for the purpose they are meant for.
The Hon. Commissioner also stated that, each community must ensure that a dump site is in place before collection of waste commences.
In his goodwill message, a representative from the benefitting communities, Yakubu Mohammed Shaibu, who was full of gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kogi State for his untiring efforts in ensuring that Kogi State is devoid of all environmental challenges, also commended Kogi NEWMAP for the procurement of the items.
In her welcome address, the Project Coordinator, Kogi NEWMAP, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, who was full of appreciation to His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello, for his support to the project throughout its lifespan, said His Excellency has zero tolerance for degraded areas; adding that the State Government had just purchased an ultra-modern office building for the newly established ACReSAL Project.
The Project Coordinator also stated that the distribution of waste disposal equipment was part of the various intervention supports by the Project to benefitting communities in the State.
The Project Coordinator further stated that the tricycles and giant waste receptacles were procured by the NEWMAP for the Community Interest Groups (CIGs) in the communities to sustain and maintain the drainages constructed by the Project. and to also create jobs for the groups. as they are expected to generate funds from waste collection from homes.
