A workaholic medical officer and cheerful-giver
Dr. Emmanuel Sunday Akinyemi is a trained medical doctor, a native of Ogori in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. He was born on the 15th November, 1959 to the humble family of Late Pa. Joel Ataogbono Akinyemi of Okibo, Ogori and Mama Elizabeth Olanike (nee Dauda) of Adubane, Okesi-Ogori.
Young Emmanuel enrolled at St. Peter’s Primary School, Ogori in 1966 and later left for St. Peter’s Primary School, Ege, Okene in 1968 where he spent two years before he finally completed his primary education at another St. Peter’s Primary CMS School, Ikuehi in June 1973. His brilliant performance at the primary school earned him admission to the prestigious Federal Government College, Odogbolu, Ogun State, where he had his secondary school education between 1973 and 1978. Equally, he remained at the same federal college between 1978 and 1980 for his Advanced level certificate. In 1980, Dr. Akinyemi was admitted to the premier university in Nigeria, the University of Ibadan (UI) where he studied medicine and he graduated in 1985. Dr Akinyemi is an Associate Fellow, National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria.
In 1986, Dr. Akinyemi was posted to Port-Harcourt, Rivers State for the national service otherwise called National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
Thereafter the service, the young and exuberant Emmanuel was employed as a medical officer at the All Saints Clinic Consortium, Port Harcourt where he worked for about a year. He was also employed at the Baptist Hospital, Saki in Oyo State and he worked between 1989 and 1993. Tolu Medical Centre, Ajegunle in Lagos State demanded for his services in 1993, where he worked for just a year before taken another appointment as the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of Gowon Estate Hospital, Lagos which was founded on the 15th May, 1994. Dr. Akinyemi is also the Chief Executive Officer of Intercontinental Health Services Ltd, Nigeria. His long experience as a consummate medical doctor has been an added advantage at assisting patients with diverse health challenges. People around him often describe him as highly professional, humane and very considerate. He is unassuming and kind to a fault and this alone has placed him in the good book of the people he comes across. He is highly involved in charity work most especially around Gowon Estate, he is a member of the Rotary International and he served between 2016 and 2017 as the President, Rotary Club of Gowon Estate. He also gets involved in several Christian programmes which have been his hallmark.
Dr. Emmanuel Sunday Akinyemi belongs to some professional associations in which he has played and is still playing some leading roles such as: the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA); Association of Rural Surgical Practitioners of Nigeria (ARSPON) and Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN).
Dr. Akinyemi is a lover of progressive ideas and he always associate himself to whatever that will bring progress to Ogoriland. He has been helpful to the aged, students, widows and the poor especially those around him. He is always proud to be identified as an Ogorian.
He enjoys travelling as well as reading the Bible, novels and biographies.
He is happily married to Mrs. Roseline Abosede Akinyemi (nee Akande) and their marriage is blessed with four amazing children and with a beautiful granddaughter.
