
…Chief Onoja to Serve as Committee Chairman
Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has inaugurated the State Publicity Committee for the 2023 Population and Housing Census, charging them to create an awareness campaign on the commencement and importance of participation in the exercise.
He said the overarching vision of the 2023 census is to produce accurate, reliable, and acceptable demographic data to help Government in development planning and critical program interventions.
State Deputy Governor, Chief (Dr) Edward Onoja performed the inauguration on behalf of Governor Bello at Lugard House on Thursday.
The Governor who assured the Committee of his continued support tasked members to deploy working strategies to sensitize and enlighten all Kogites in the bid to ensure seamless conduct of the exercise.
He recalled that the Census exercise in Nigeria was last held in 2006 against the global best practice of every 10 years, but commended President Buhari for his resolve to ensure it holds in his administration as an enduring legacy.
He said the enumeration exercises previously held across the State will serve as a scoreboard to meeting the aspirations of the people for improved living standards through a transparent Census.
The Deputy Governor serves as Chairman of the Committee.
In attendance were the State Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon Sunday Faleke; Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon Kingsley Fanwo; Hon Federal Commissioner, NPC–Kogi State, Prof H.I Jimoh; and NPC State Director, Mr Ojo Titus. Others were Heads of media parastatals, civic groups, traditional and religious leaders, amongst others.
