The Rt. Hon. Speaker, I wish to draw the attention of this Honourable House and indeed, the State Government to the deplorable condition of Egbe-Ogbe road in Yagba West Local Government Area and the imminent danger it poses to both residents of the communities and other travelers who ply the route.
Whereas, people of Egbe and Ogbe are predominantly farmers who earn their living through sales of farm produce.
The Egbe-Ogbe road , as the name implies is the only route connecting Ogbe community to Egbe where they access major market for sales of their farm produce. It is equally through this road that residents of Ogbe access Grade A Hospital and better Health services which are rendered in Egbe community.
Whereas, today, residents are faced with the sad reality of the road becoming shadow of itself. The road which has been ravaged by erosion resulting from lack of drainage control has subjected residents and travelers who ply it to untold hardship.
Ogbe to Egbe, a journey of less than hour is currently taking 8 hours and above as drivers now access Egbe through an alternative road passing through Ekiti State.
Whereas, the deplorable condition of the road as it is now has made it so stressful and hard for the people to go about their daily activities thereby stamped the social- economic activities and medical attention of the people. Consequently, it has resulted to several loss of lives and properties.
The Rt. Hon. Speaker, it is worrisome that, there are now fears among the residents that the two communities may not be accessible to each other if urgent attention or palliative measure is not taken.
It is as a result of this urgent need that I bring this matter before this Honourable House for deliberation and to consequently resolve as follows:
PRAYERS
1. That this Honourable House appeal to His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, The Executive Governor of Kogi State to on the ground of urgency and in his usual magnanimity approve the reconstruction of Egbe-Ogbe road to ameliorate the suffering of Kogites who ply the road and forestall total separation of the two communities.
2. That the State Ministry of work be directed to carry out an on- the-spot assessment of the road with a view to carrying out appropriate palliative measure to save the road pending its reconstruction.
I so moved
Be it resolved today being ……5th……………day of ……May………………..2020
