The Kogi State Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Abubakar Ohere has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe into how the State is getting funds to carry out the massive several ongoing construction and intervention in the State, rather than dessipate energy on non existent account and other mundane issues.
Engr. Ohere made the disclosure while carrying out an on the spot assessment on several ongoing project by the Kogi State Government in Lokoja.
Engr. Ohere in a chat with Newsmen at the GYB Model Science Secondary school Adankolo, said the Model Science Secondary Schools is a project that is ongoing simultaneously in the three Senatorial District of the State, commended Gov Bello for his prudent management of scarce resources that has helped in serious and sustained funding of several ongoing projects in the State.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Works and Housing described the GYB Model Science Secondary School project as a special Initiative Program that would produce the bulk of students for the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, lauded the initiative as a welcome development.
The Commissioner explained that the dogged determination to deliver qualitative and standard projects that would stand the test of time, is reason why even on a weekend and working round the clock, his Ministry is working assiduously to ensure that the mandate given by Gov Bello is achieved.
He restated his commitment to ensuring close monitoring, dedication and sacrifice towards ensuring that no stone is left unturned in meeting up with Gov. Bello’s mandate on timely and qualitative delivery of all Ongoing projects in the State.
The Commissioner added that his visit to the GYB Model Science Secondary school is also informed by the fact that the work is at a critical stage of construction, pointed out that inview of the rising cases of building collapse in the country, there was the need to monitor the process of casting the floor, added that the State Government needed to also be proactive.
Engr. Ohere expressed satisfaction with the quality of work on the GYB Model Science Secondary School Adankolo, said the work is meeting up with specifications, commended the quality of chipping and other materials in use, added that through labouratory testing, the special casting and other practical analysis, showed that the work is meeting up with the required standard.
Engr. Ohere further stressed that when completed, the GYB Model Science Secondary school will be a suitable platform for students that would pass through the school to gain entrance into the Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara, disclosed that the project has two suspended blocks.
He further stressed that one of the blocks would be for Physics and Chemistry labouratory, another for the CBT Centre, while the first floor will house the JSS Classes and the last for SSS students, expressed optimism that the project would be delivered on time and with the required standard.
Engr. Ohere maintained that the unprecedented achievements of Gov. Bello in the areas of infrastructure is hinged on the Governor’s proactiveness and initiative, explained that the Governor had promised during his second term campaign to do more for the people of the State if elected.
He pointed out that the Lets do mantra policy of the governor has informed the massive development in the Education, Health, Roads, Agriculture and Environment Sectors of the State, pointed out that the massive construction of unprecedented embarkment, drainages with the State capital has made the state a huge construction site.
The Commissioner called on the people to be concerned about the judicious utilization of scarce resources that has led to the ongoing construction across the State, assured that all Ongoing projects in State would be delivered at the promised date.
The Commissioner particularly expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the Ganaja flyover bridge, mentioned that efforts is on to deliver at the promised date not minding the challenges that has showed up.
The Commissioner observed increase in the volume of traffic along the Ganaja flyover bridge, the area being an already built up area, as factors militating against the speed expected of the work.
While noting that the increase in the flow of traffic is occasion and associated with the ember months, said there is a deliberate efforts not to however take actions that would affect the economic life of people living and doing business around the Ganaja flyover construction site, said it has led to segmenting the work on the retaining walls making the work move at slow pace.
He however expressed confidence that inspite the challenges, efforts is ongoing not to allow it affect the date of delivery, expressed satisfaction that the quality of work on the bridge is second to none and best in terms of standard.
The Commissioner described the Ganaja junction as an intersection that allows for heavy traffic leading to the North and Southern part of the State particularly as we approach the festive season, said the State Government is however being systematic with the construction work so as not to hinder flow of traffic.
Engr Ohere expressed satisfaction that the State Government has made arrangements for more security reenforcement that would enable for construction work to take place during the night period to meet up with lost time occasion by the traffic and other economic activities affecting the pace of work.
The Commissioner commended Gov. Bello for mobilizing FERMA to begin work on the Ganaja road which was left abandoned months ago, lamented however that the work on the Ganaja road and the Ganaja flyover bridge has further added to hold up, also affecting the pace of work on the Ganaja flyover bridge, but assured that efforts is on to still deliver the bridge at the promised date.
