Kwara State government has received various relief materials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for persons affected by the boat accident which claimed over 100 lives in Patigi, Patigi local government area of the State.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, Governor AbdulRazaq, who had previously received the Agency in his office, described the incident as tragic, which could have been avoided if the necessary precautions had been taken.
AbdulRazaq said in order to forestall a recurrence of such tragic incident, safety measures including wearing of life jackets, among others, must be adhered to, adding that his administration is already putting such measures in place.
He expressed gratitude of the state to the NEMA team led by the Director General, saying the relief materials would go a long way to complement the efforts of the state government to cushion the effects on the affected persons.
Earlier in his remarks, Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mustapha Habib Ahmed, had expressed sympathy of the Federal Government to Kwarans, especially those affected by the boat disaster, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, upon receiving news of the disaster, gave directive to NEMA to provide necessary support to the affected persons.
Food items including rice, maize and beans, adult and children wears,among other relief items, were donated.
