Directors of 21 Local Government of Kogi State have been charged to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Corona Virus in their respective Local Governments.
The Executive Chairman Kogi State Local Government Service Commission Prof. Shuaibu Ahmed Ibrahim gave the charge at a two days workshop organized by Kogi State Local Government Service Commission in collaboration with Ojanibe Consult in Lokoja recently with the theme “Epidemiology Causes Clinical manifestation and Diagnosis, prevention and Control of Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19).
Prof. Ibrahim noted that, Corona Virus is a pandemic ravaging the world hence the need for prompt and urgent intervention to prevent the spread of the disease.
He further stated that, the workshop is organized to commemorate Governor Bello’s World Hand washing Day and urged the participants to replicate the lecture in their various Local Governments.
He advised them to prevent the spread of the disease by abiding by the stipulated guidelines.
Speaking earlier, the permanent Secretary of the Commission,Alhaji Musa Yahaya Omoyi, commended the DLGs for their prompt response and urged them to go back to their various Local Governments and sensitize the people adding that prevention is better than cure.
The Consultant Ojanibe Consult, pharmacist Alexander Onoja David in his paper presentation said as one of the Kogi State Covid-19 squadron team,he has decided to take the fight against the disease to the grassroot through the DLGs with the consent of His Excellency,the Executive Governor of Kogi State,Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello .
He described Corona Virus as a family of Viruses that can cause illnesses such as the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome which Originated from China in 2019.
He identified the symtoms to include fever, cough, shortness of breath, tiredness, aches, chills,sore throat,loss of smell,loss of taste, headaches, diarrhea and severe vomiting.
He further stated that some people might exhibit symtoms while some are asymtomatic. Adding that those who are at risk are older adults and those with chronic medical conditions.
He also disclosed that ,hand washing with soap and water for 20 seconds, social distancing for at least 6 feet or 2 meters with any one who is sick ,use of hand sanitizers, wearing face masks in public places, avoid touching of nose,eyes and mouth and staying at home are part or the preventive measures.
In her remarks,the Director of Lokoja Local Government, Hajia Fati Abubakar on behalf of her colleagues,thanked the Commission for constant training and re training and promised to reciprocate the gesture by going back to sensitize the grassroots.
