Coronavirus :Constitute Emergency response team, Hon Aderonke appeals to State Govt

Kogi state House of Assembly has appealed to the state government to urgently constitute a Coronavirus Emergency Response Team.

The appeal came under a motion of urgent public importance sponsored on the floor of the house by the member representing Yagba West state constituency, Aderonke Aro.

He said that the COVID-19 team would be saddled with the responsibility of preventing and containing the deadly virus.

He explained that there was urgent need for government to sensitise the populace on the preventive measures as well as give it the seriousness it deserves.

Mr Aro also appealed to the state government to ensure that the constitution of the committee be made up of sixty percent of representatives of health bodies.

Seconding the motion, Paul Enema representing Dekina Okura state constituency, said prevention was key and urged government and other public institutions to make hand sanitisers available.

In his ruling the Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole commended the sponsor of the motion saying that everyone should take their personal hygiene seriously.

Similarly the need for the kogi state government to tackle the rising cases of tuberculosis in the state came up on the floor of the house.

In a motion of urgent public importance, the member representing Omala state constituency, Hilarion Collins Musa said four local government areas of, Ankpa, Idah, Dekina and Ofu were most affected as the urgent need to stop it from further spreading was now.

The lawmaker said that the state government should pay up its counterpart fund in order to access intervention programmes that were available outside the state.

He also said that there was the need to expand the direct observatory dot centres, train more health workers as well as carryout sensitisation programmes on the prevention of tuberculosis in the state.
