The federal fire service says it will continue to strengthen its operations to reduce effects of damages resulting from fire disasters in Nigeria.
Controller General of the federal fire service, Mr Liman Ibrahim Alhaji stated this when he presented a new fire truck to the Kogi state government for use by the State Command of the Federal Fire Service in Lokoja.
The Controller General expressed concern over recent fire outbreaks across the country noting that the zonal and state commands of the service were being repositioned for optimal performance.
“When Mr President came on board in 2015, he approved the purchase of 96 fire fighting vehicles and we have taken delivery of 78 and that enabled us to establish 12 zonal Commands across the country. The zonal headquarters have taken off, we are now going to state commands and Kogi is the first state Command to be delivered this fire truck”. Mr Ibrahim explained.
Mr Ibrahim reiterated the need for intensive awareness to reduce the impact of disasters since fire outbreaks were inevitable.
While taking delivery of the new fire fighting truck at the Government House Lokoja, Kogi State Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja pointed out that sensitization was key as he expressed the state government’s support to the service.
He said, “Kogi state believes that awareness, advocacies and trainings of how to prevent even fire from happening would be the first step of action. That has been done”.
There was a demonstration of the fire extinguishing process by personnel of the Federal Fire Service using the new truck.
