Covid- 19: We don’t have protective equipment to treat patients- Kogi health workers cries out
Kogi state Government has been admonished to provide protective equipment for local government health workers to curtail the spread of covid-19 in the state.
The State chairman, Medical and Health workers union of Nigeria, Comrade Amari Gabriel gave the advise during an interview with grace FM on Friday.
Comrade Amari who bemoaned on the non available of protective equipment for health workers at the grassroot pointed out that, the training on covid -19 carried out by the National Primary health care for all the 21 local government health workers in the state would be defeated.
According to him, health workers have continued to put their lives in danger as they don’t have access to equipment such as hand gloves, face masks, sanitizers, and many other health equipment to curtail the spread of the pandemic.
Describing Corona virus as a deadly pandemic that has put the world under siege, and heads of nation on their toes, comrade Amari noted that the community spread of the diseases is indeed worrisome and disturbing.
He called on residence in the state to always observed the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC guidelines which includes regular hand washing, avoid shaking of hands, social distancing, avoiding over crowded environment and the use of face mark.
The chairman however commended health workers in the state and the nation at large for their high level of patriotism in saving human lives praying that their effort and sacrifices to the nation would no go in vain.
On the resumption of schools, Amari insist that, stakeholders in the education sector should ensure that all machineries have been put in place to avoid exposing students and pupils to the deadly disease that have claimed thousands of lives in the world.
It could be recalled that, as at Thursday 16th July 2020, Ondo State recorded ninety-five fresh COVID-19 cases as Nigeria’s infections from the virus inched closer to the 35, 000 mark.
This is according to a tweet on the official handle of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) which noted that the country had 595 new cases of the virus for the day.
The new COVID-19 infections were reported in twenty-three states in the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), taking Nigeria’s total cases to 34, 854.
