Fire guts four plank shops in Kwara

By Stephen Olufemi Oni, Ilorin

No fewer than four plank shops have been gutted by fire in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

According to the spokesman of the Kwara state Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the incident occurred on Friday night at the Challenge area, beside Nigerian Railway Station.

He said: “Although it was a late night call, however, our firemen were still able to perform excellently well by eliminating the ravaging fire on time. And out of the eight shops in the vicinity, only four shops were burnt by the fire.

“Mr. Ahmed, one of the eyewitnesses of the incident, was the one who summoned the Brigade to the scene of occurrence.

“Reports say, the fire emanated from a nearby abandoned refuse that was burning and later got to the affected shops.”

Adekunle said the Director of the State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged the people of the state to always play safe and never to leave any refuse burning unmonitored.
