Group Decries Pardon For Dariye, Nyame, Seeks End To ASUU Strike

The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has decried the state pardon granted two former governors, Joshua Dariye of Plateau State and Rev. Jolly Nyame of Taraba State, describing the action as a sign of failure of the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and a bad precedent.
A statement by the group’s Chief Missioner, Sheikh Abu Sheriff, said the federal government has by that action crumbled its anti-corruption fight, adding that corruption has now been endorsed as part of governance.
By the federal government’s action, the group insisted that there is no basis for retaining other criminals in Correctional Centres across the country when those who stole billions of naira and rendered the nation’s economy comatose are now set free.
On the face-off between the Academic Staff Union of Nigeria Universities (ASUU) and the federal government, the group lamented the unfulfilled promises by the government to ASUU since 2009, while appealing to ASUU to reconsider its stand in the interest of the nation and call off its strike action.
It pleaded with ASUU’s leadership to consider the plight of the students and their parents, in calling off the strike action, noting that from all indications the federal government is not ready to shift grounds on its stance on the crisis.
